Florida native Sean Chambers is another in the line of Jimi Hendrix / Stevie Ray Vaughan guitar disciples. Like many of his generation it was first hearing Hendrix – in Sean’s case hearing Hendrix’s “Red House” at the tender age of 13 – that brought the Rock Blues path clearly into view for Chambers. And he hasn’t looked back.
Drawing further inspiration along the way from Texas guitar stalwarts Stevie Ray Vaughan, Johnny Winter, Albert Collins, and Freddie King, Chambers began the arduous task of honing his guitar chops. It would take some 15 years but the initial fruits of his labour, his debut album Strong Temptation, clearly in the SRV tradition, commanded immediate attention from both the record buying public and critics alike.
Strong Temptation would mark the first of 5 releases that have shown a guitarist adept at a number of styles: Texas Shuffle, Swing, Delta Slide, and old school Chicago. All of them refracted through the prism of Chambers’ forceful quick hit leads. Of note, is his latest release, Rock House Sessions, cut in Nashville with Reese Wynans of Double Trouble fame at the board. The recording was nominated for a 2014 Blues Blast Award “Rock Blues Album of The Year” and spurred the UK based Guitarist Magazine to name Chambers one of the top 50 guitarists of the last century.
And there’s more to the Sean Chambers story than that of a guitar driven Blues hero. After a chance encounter with former Howlin’ Wolf guitarist, Hubert Sumlin, Chambers has the distinction of having served as the Chicago Blues legend’s band leader for 5 years. In addition, Chambers was part of a star studded cast guesting on Sumlin’s final solo album, About Them Shoes.
